From the splendor of Versailles to the more intimate salons of the 18th century, we encounter a time when music left the ceremonials of the court and became personal and immediate. In the shadow of the Sun King’s era, under Louis XV, a new musical sensibility emerged with the pardessus de viole - the French treble viol - at its center: an elegant and unusual instrument with a bright, silken tone, beloved in the salons. Simone Eckert and Hamburger Ratsmusik, drawing on more than three decades of immersion in historically informed performance, bring this subtle and expressive repertoire to life - with works by Marin Marais, Robert de Visée, and Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Forqueray - performed with authenticity and artistic presence.
